On Saturdays through August, Historic Battersea will be open to the public for tours from 1 pm – 4 pm.  Built by Col. John Banister in 1768, it is a five-part neo-Palladian villa on approximately 35 acres in Petersburg.  Adjacent to the house is a greenhouse built in 1830.  Col. Banister was a signer of the Articles of Confederation, a Revolutionary War patriot and the first Mayor of Petersburg.  The Battersea Foundation has worked tirelessly for years to undertake all of the necessary foundation and structural repairs and now you are invited to see the gorgeous interior and furnishings.  Of particular note is the beautiful Chippendale winding staircase in the entrance hall and the floor to ceiling window in the west pavilion.  While there is no charge for the tours, donations to the Foundation are welcome and greatly appreciated.
