Presented by Historic Petersburg Foundation

The restoration of the very historic Hudson-Day House is currently being restored and you will get to see this work in progress! Because the interior of the original 1827 Federal house and its circa 184o Thomas Day addition are ready for final renovation, visitors will have the unique opportunity to view certain construction elements and details that will not be visible once the work is complete. It is fascinating history! This house was originally located in Halifax County, VA, and in the 1990s was threatened with demolition. It was saved, dismantled, hauled in pieces to historic High Street in Old Towne Petersburg and reconstructed. Why Petersburg? Thomas Day was one of the antebellum South’s most successful craftsmen. He was born in Dinwiddie County in 1801 to free parents of African descent and his father, for whom he apprenticed, was a woodworker in Petersburg. 2 opportunities – 50 persons each in the morning & afternoon.
