Nationally acclaimed historian, Gordon Rhea will be sharing compelling stories from his new book, “Stephen A. Swails: Black Freedom Fighter”. You will hear about the military and political upheavals of Stephen Swail’s time. Swails was a free black in the North before the Civil War began and went on to become the 1st African American commissioned as a combat officer in the U. S. Military. He later lived and was very politically active in South Carolina.
The Civil War Roundtable meets monthly at Pamplin Historical Park on the 1st Thursday of each month from 7 – 8 pm.
