Four generations are operating a beautiful 800-acre dairy farm and creamery in western Dinwiddie County that has been operating since the mid-1700s. Their fresh from the cow milk and ice cream is available in the new creamery. The family-owned Richlands Dairy Farm has been a fixture on Route 460 in Blackstone for many years. It now reaches new heights of popularity with the opening of the Creamery. How can you possibly pass by this new landmark without stopping for a delicious ice-cream in a freshly made waffle cone? Their mission and vision are summed up in “Honest to Goodness Dairy”. What does that mean? They are transparent in their operation, taking care of their cows with the highest of standards, installing large windows for visitors to look through to the milk plant, conducting tours of the farm so that everyone can see exactly what they are doing. Not only that, a very important part of their mission is giving back to their community as they commit to giving away one gallon of milk to a needy family or to a food bank for every 10 that they sell. Commendable business practices and. oh, my…. the ice-cream is AMAZING! And you can order country style delicious food for lunch and dinner. Be sure to try it!
October is Fall Festival and every weekend, so get everybody in the car and tour the farm, go on a hayride, select your pumpkin, navigate a corn maze, milk a cow, have some ice cream and really see what farm life and a creamery is like. Group tours can be scheduled during May – October and watch the calendar for Dinners on the Dairy. This is a VA farm that’s all about using Virginia products.
