When you are strolling the 35 acres of rolling lawns among huge oak trees, magnolias and wildflowers, it is hard to imagine that you are in the busy city of Petersburg. The Anglo-Palladian house was commissioned in 1768, by Petersburg’s first mayor, Colonel John Banister. It is one of the earliest and finest surviving examples of a five-part, Robert Morris-style Palladian house form in the United States.
