Join us to learn about Weisiger’s Virginia Brigade during the Second Battle for the Weldon Railroad. After a successful flank attack by Mahone’s improvised division on August 19, 1864, Weisiger’s brigade faced the imminent threat of being surrounded by Union reinforcements from the IX Corps. Discover whether Weisiger’s rearguard was able to hold long enough for Mahone to withdraw his troops.
This SUNSET TOUR is a free & family-friendly program discussing historic places and events related to the Petersburg Campaign of the Civil War. Petersburg National Battlefield and Petersburg Battlefields Foundation are partnering for a fourth year to offer these tours once a month between May and August.
All programs are free and open to the public. Programs are 60-90 minutes and require a small amount of walking. Drinking water and comfortable shoes are recommended.
