]]> The Beacon Theatre is the centerpiece in Hopewell’s downtown since its opening in 1928. It was designed by the same architect who designed the Byrd Theatre in Richmond and has both colonial revival and art deco details. Just a short walk from Hopewell’s downtown waterfront, the Beacon is on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to the performing arts space, the building houses wonderful event space for wedding receptions, smaller social events, meetings and conferences. The third floor Grand Ballroom features high ceilings and Brazilian cherry floors. The room can accommodate 175 people standing. The smaller room on the second floor can accommodate 100 people for a seated event, and there is a wonderful reception area on the first floor. There are 350 free parking spaces in a two-block radius of the Beacon.

]]> Weston Plantation is the perfect setting for a wedding or special event. The manor house is a classic example of Virginia Georgian architecture and its lawn slopes down to the beautiful Appomattox River. It is the only surviving 18th century plantation house on the Appomattox River.

Weston’s grounds and winter kitchen, in the cellar of the house, are available for weddings, receptions, luncheons and meetings. The winter kitchen accommodates 45 people and the grounds can accommodate 325 guests.

]]> This expansive historic property in northern Dinwiddie County has a variety of venues in which to hold meetings, conferences, social events or weddings. The spaces include a picnic pavilion, large banquet space, an educational center, the barn at the Hart Farm and the spacious rotunda in the museum. Meetings and seminars can be paired with dinners that include period entertainment or museum tours. There are great birthday party packages for children ages 8 to 12, which can include 19th century games & crafts, rifle demonstrations & drill.

Whether you are interested in a small, period wedding or a larger event, there is space available and packages to meet your dining needs. Smaller ceremonies can be held at the Hart Farm and barn. The banquet room and rotunda in the main museum can accommodate larger parties.

]]> This magnificent Federal-style frame house, built in 1794, sat dormant for 37 years and was rescued from demolition when it was relocated to its present site in the heart of Old Towne Petersburg in 1971. It has been painstakingly repaired and restored and the “Petersburg Room”, the parlor wing, has been deemed by the Smithsonian to be one of the most outstanding rooms of woodwork in America. There is a charming English basement that has been converted to a wine bar.

The most recent history of the house is that it was featured in Steven Spielberg’s movie, Lincoln, National Geographic’s Killing Lincoln, and AMC’s spy series Turn.

This house is a perfectly lovely setting for parties, weddings and corporate meetings. The entire property (historic floors, basement café, patio/yard) is available for rent.

]]> When you are strolling the 35 acres of rolling lawns among huge oak trees, magnolias and wildflowers, it is hard to imagine that you are in the busy city of Petersburg. The Anglo-Palladian house was commissioned in 1768, by Petersburg’s first mayor, Colonel John Banister.  It is one of the earliest and finest surviving examples of a five-part, Robert Morris-style Palladian house form in the United States.

Battersea offers an unusual and dramatic setting for weddings or special events throughout the year. It can be an intimate ceremony or a grand affair. Battersea staff will provide patrons with a list of local vendors and service providers to assist with your planning.

Originally owned by the Kanak Family, this historic property in Prince George, VA dates back to 1899. Through the years, the Kanak family built three homes, all which have been restored to their historic beauty with original hardwood floors and elegant finishes. The grounds also consist of ten barns and six silos, making this 13-acre farm your perfect picturesque, dream wedding venue. The property was purchased in 2018 by the McCormick family. They look forward to serving brides and grooms for years to come.

The Barns of Kanak offers both outdoor and indoor facilities that can accommodate up to 200 guests. Our package includes 12-hour access to the entire property and a month-of coordinating team. Our venue is also available for other events such as:
