Presented by Pamplin Historical Park

Explore how Americans celebrated the Christmas season during the Civil War when letters were the only form of communication. You will hear letters and learn how they brought cheer to soldiers. You will also hear that because of the scarcity of provisions, substitutions often had to be made on holiday menus at home and soldiers had to forage around their camps. Staff in 1800s clothing will greet and serve you a lovely array of refreshments and a cup of tea. This event is in-person (reservations required by December 2nd) or virtual. You will receive a link if you prefer virtual and you may purchase a seasonal Tea Goody Box to enhance your enjoyment that will be mailed to you.
