Presented by Falling Creek Ironworks Park

Come to Falling Creek Ironworks Park, the site of the first iron furnace built in the English New World. It was built in 1619 by English workers whose expedition was organized by the Virginia Company of London who wanted to expand trade and further mine the iron ore from the colony. The first expedition was unsuccessful, so a second was organized in 1621.  The works were completed in 1622; however, Indian raids on March 22, 1622 destroyed many settlements including the furnace.  You will see one of the few remaining 17th-century buildings in VA. Bring the family to enjoy living history performances, militia demonstrations, archaeological guided tours, music, children’s period games & activities, and lots of food vendors.
