The Battle of Burgess Mill was fought on October 27 & 28, 1864 in Dinwiddie County. This 2-hour ranger-led caravan tour commemorates that battle highlighting fighting that was occurring all along the western front. During that summer Gen. Grant was trying to envelop Petersburg and cut Gen. Lee’s supply lines. By October the Federal siege lines had nearly reached Boydton Plank Road, the last major road leading into the city. On October 27 the Army of the Potomac launched attacks on the Confederate line along Boydton Plank Road near Burgess Mill. You will hear the stories on this 2-hour caravan tour that meets at the Eastern Front Visitor Center. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.
