Four generations are operating a beautiful 800-acre dairy farm and creamery in western Dinwiddie County that has been operating since the mid-1700s. Their fresh from the cow milk and ice cream is available in the creamery. The family-owned Richlands Dairy Farm has been a fixture on Route 460 in Dinwiddie County for many years. How can you possibly pass by this new landmark without stopping for delicious ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone? Their mission and vision are summed up in “Honest to Goodness Dairy”. What does that mean? They are transparent in their operation, taking care of their cows with the highest of standards, installing large windows for visitors to look through to the milk plant, and conducting tours of the farm so that everyone can see exactly what they are doing. Not only that, a very important part of their mission is giving back to their community as they commit to giving away one gallon of milk to a needy family or to a food bank for every 10 that they sell. Commendable business practices and the ice cream is AMAZING! Be sure to try it!

Group tours can be scheduled during May – October and watch the calendar for other special events. This is a Virginia farm that’s all about using Virginia products.

The perfect family outing! Visit this farm and interact with rescue mini horses, dairy cows, a donkey, tortoise, goats, sheep, llamas, rabbits, geese, turkeys, ducks, chickens and learn all about farm life. The farm tours last 90 minutes and you must CALL IN ADVANCE to schedule your visit: (804) 536-6879. It’s a beautiful drive to the country and the historic farmhouse was built in 1787; the wonderful red barn was built in the 1800s. The farm served as a hospital for the wounded during the Civil War.

The farm is also available for children’s birthday parties. AND, this summer they will hold week-long day camps to give kids an opportunity to learn all about the animals, or to learn all about growing food, composting, and healthy food choices.

Animal Explorers will work in teams and learn about animal husbandry of rabbits, emus, chickens, mini horses, mini donkeys, and quail. Camp is a hands-on FUN experience where all campers assist with animal care and become the expert of their favorite farm animal.
The Perfect Picks Flower Farm is a PICK-YOUR-OWN or U-PICK Flower Farm that is open seasonally. Bloom time is ultimately determined by Mother Nature, beginning in mid-June through September.

The farm has a variety of cut flowers that are ever-changing throughout the season. Customers are asked to bring their own bucket (5-gallon or smaller) and clippers/ scissors. A small-size bathroom trash can from the dollar store is a great option to bring for your flowers.

Hours will be posted weekly according to the weather forecast. Typically, the farm is open in the late afternoons and weekend days/evenings.
